#8 | Scott and Watson’s Bird Van Odyssey – Project Upland Podcast
Nick Larson is the host and creator of the Project…
On this week’s episode of the Project Upland Podcast, Scott Johnson joins the show to talk about his bird van odyssey with his dog Watson!
Scott Johnson is an upland bird hunter from Duluth, Minnesota. This year, Scott decided that he and Watson would take their favorite pastime to the next level. He left his job to buy, gut, and customize a van, laying plans for the ultimate 2017 Bird Van Odyssey road trip. Scott and Watson’s journey began in September and they are well underway now. I caught up with Scott just before he pointed the “Bird Van” south and left the northwoods of Minnesota.
You can follow their journey online by visiting the blog Scott set up: www.scottandwatson.wordpress.com
Here’s an excerpt from the blog and more from Scott about his epic 2017 upland bird hunting adventure:
“Oh, hi there, I see you you’ve found your way to my blog! I’ll try and keep everyone up to date on Watson and my travels here, as this is sure to be one heck of a journey! If you don’t know what I’m referring too, I’m days away from setting out on a 6 month bird hunting trip across the U.S. with my super cool bird dog, Watson. We’ll be starting in Montana for almost 2 weeks chasing sharp tailed grouse, then it’s back to northeast Minnesota for the ruffed grouse opener. We’ll be in Minnesota somewhere until about mid November, soaking up every minute of ruffed grouse hunting and waterfowling that we can. From there it’s an open ended adventure, we’ve got some ideas as to how it will go, but the BirdVan is prepared to go wherever it needs to! So stay tuned and follow along, and don’t be shy about asking to join us if we’re in your neck of the woods.”
